2011 was our 32nd Air-Britain Fly-In and we were pleased to be able to hold it again with the support of The Squadron & North Weald Flying Services at North Weald Airfield.

Each year we mark appropriate aviation milestones to support the event's "Classic" theme. In 2011 the main theme was "Classic British built aircraft" and we featured the anniversaries of Auster Aircraft (65th), First flight of the DHC1 Chipmunk (65th), Beagle Terrier and Airedale and Rollason Condor (all 50th).

With fine weather for both days over 150 aircraft visited us over the weekend and a log of the visiting aircraft can be found here. Our thanks go to the support provided by the International Auster Club, a result of which was that we had a fine line up of these classic British aircraft.

Aircraft attend from across the UK from as far north as Aberdeenshire and from France, Holland and Belgium. Adding to the visiting aircraft there was activity from some of North Weald's resident aircraft, including Spitfire, Hurricane and Skyraider.

This year the event was supporting fundraising for the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance Trust and over £500 was raised for them.

Each year prizes are awarded and a list if this year's award winners can be found here

  • "I had never previously attended an AB Fly-in but decided to go along to North Weald this year on the Sunday. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would like to say a very big 'THANK YOU' to everyone involved in planning and putting on such a great event! The organisation was first class and my overriding impression was of the incredibly friendly atmosphere. WELL DONE!"
