Miscellaneous - US Export Cards

The US CAA and later the FAA kept record cards in filing cabinets prior to computerisation. The export cards were originally filed together but some later inserted with the Make/Model/Serial cards. Within the cards formats evolved over the years.

Back in 1972 reel films were made of the FAA export cards from about 1938 onwards, and 21 films were made. These were digitised to produce the files here. The quality is variable and frame detection mean that sometimes frames were missed or multiple frames appeared as a single image. With 110,000+ frames checking was impossible.

Aircraft, engines, propellers even odd wings had their own cards, so not all cards relate to aircraft. Cards can show N-Number, Foreign registration, both, or none. It varies!
